Vanity Fare

Vanity Fare were one of the late sixties' most likeable pop acts — a tight, energetic band from Rochester, Kent with a gift for breezy, feel-good singles that stuck in the memory long after the needle lifted. They first charted in 1968 with I Live for the Sun, but it was 1969 that brought their real breakthrough. Hitchin' a Ride became a transatlantic smash, reaching the US Top Five and giving the band an international profile that few British acts of the period could match. They followed it almost immediately with Early in the Morning, another UK Top Ten hit that confirmed them as one of the era's most consistent hit-makers. Though the hits slowed in the early seventies, Vanity Fare have remained a firm favourite on the classic pop and nostalgia circuit, delivering a live show that captures all the sunshine and energy of their chart-topping heyday.
